Microsoft is hiring? Really? 
He’ll yes they are!
Let me tell you how this works. For one thing if you go to reliable news sources and not network television or your local newspaper you will know a few reasons why they did a major layoff.
By the way it’s not 5K jobs that are gone, it s only around 2-3K but why not round up to make it sound spooky!
Getting Rid of Deadwood – That is a quote I read today about this layoff. Takin’ out the trash so to speak! So how can I say they are hiring? It can take months to hire new candidates and that is all the time they need to start fresh with new hires that are going to make a difference in their company.
Buying Time for Themselves – Less people to feed is the idea here and to slowly build up a workforce that is going to bring them some money in the following years. Right now Microsoft needs innovation. Here is another secret: if you are laid off and go and work for another company and are eligible for rehire at Microsoft, you are a goldmine! Also if you worked for Microsoft you will be a goldmine to other companies who are being picky in their hiring process.
New Found Entrepreneurs – Let me tell you how 2009 is going to be the year of the entrepreneur! Most people that got laid off are going to start their own businesses instead of looking for another job. That includes contracting for guess who? Microsoft.
Yahoo! Merger – Cross your fingers! Perhaps they want to look a little more attractive to Yahoo! so they can seal the deal.
Certainly this is just a primer and I hope it gives some of those hope who were laid off or those who are sharks and looking to get hired by the big M.
I also have a feeling that there are going to be quite a few MS’ers who will visit the clubs despite being laid off. See you all there!
